H.E Dr. Arikana Chihombori Quao 2018 new year's message to the African Diaspora in the United States.
The time for Africa's liberation and homecoming for displaced Africans has arrived. Those on the continent must reclaim occupied lands and remove the divisions imposed by the 1885 Berlin Conference to unlock Africa's potential. Captain Ibrahim Traoré, along with his counterparts in Niger and Mali, has shown courageous leadership in this effort.
Ibrahim Traoré responded, "On behalf of my compatriots across the continent, I join Sister Arikana in saying: We will not let you down."
HE Ambassador Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao, a medical doctor, born in Zimbabwe, was former Permanent Representative of the African Union to the United States (2016-2019), and is Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of the African Diaspora Development Institute (ADDI)

Dr Arikana Chihombori Quao – United States Must Start Respecting Africa As Equal Partner. Former African Union diplomat Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quao doesn’t see much hope for the just ended US-Africa Leaders Summit. According to Arikana in an interview with Al Jazeera, officials in the United States look upon Africans as people “in need of help” or people who “need to be told what to do”, and this is destroying relations between Africa and Washington. Behind the scenes during the just ended summit, officials from several African countries, speaking on the condition of anonymity to avoid disparaging their American hosts, were less complimentary about the summit. Some said they had heard big American promises before, notably during the inaugural 2014 U.S.-Africa summit hosted by President Barack Obama, that did not come to pass.
Dr Arikana told Al Jazeera reporter Steve Clemons that “the US needs to call a timeout and treat Africans with respect.” She went on to further state that the US-Africa Leaders Summit hosted by the White House “will fail unless Americans see Africans as equals". She argues that pan-African unity is the only path for the continent to be less dependent on outside powers. Here are some of the statements from Arikana interview with Al Jazeera reporter Steve Clemons.
