Backlinks are links from a page on one website to another.

If you’re on the receiving end, you can refer to them as incoming links or inbound links. If you’re linking to others, it’s called an external, outgoing or outbound link.

Why are backlinks important? There are three main reasons, and you’ll learn what those reasons are in the video.

The easiest way to conceptualize backlinks is to think of them as votes. When a page receives a backlink, it’s essentially another website vouching for the content on the page. And the more “votes,” you get from credible sources, the higher the trust.

But not all backlinks are created equal.

How do you tell a “good quality backlink” from a “not-so-good” one? You’ll learn how in the video.

- What are backlinks?

Backlinks include a range of criteria, including domain authority, referral research, and other specialized tools.

There are three types of links. Internal links link different pages on the same website together: for example, a blog post related to an actual product page. The second type is outgoing links from your website to an external website. This is very similar to an endorsement. Thirdly, you have incoming links or backlinks. These are incoming links to your websites: for example, if you have a product page that an information website is pointing to when mentioning your product, that would be a backlink.

#1 - Review your link structure to create a link network. You can consider making topic-based content hubs to establish keyword authority.

Link building is arguably the most challenging part of SEO. It’s a part that requires technical prowess, a creative approach, and just straight up grit and grind.

So what is link building?

Here’s the standard definition. Link building is the process of getting other websites to link to a page on your website. And these hyperlinks are called backlinks.

However, most people can’t seem to get the link building process right. This ultimately boils down to execution.

The reason why execution is tough is because people focus too much on the end result, i.e. getting backlinks to their pages. The process is actually very relational. And relationships are built by humans, not “borrowed” templates from videos and blog posts.

So, here’s a better definition: link building is the process of building relationships with other relevant site owners who want and will link to your content because it enhances theirs.

It includes relationships, relevance, and a value exchange.

Since link building is tough, you need to understand why it’s worth the effort. In short, backlinks are used by search engines like Google to help rank web pages. And the reason for this is something called PageRank.

Why does PageRank matter and how does PageRank work? You’ll learn all about it in the video.

Once you’ve understood how PageRank works, you’ll want to know how to get backlinks to your site.

There are 3 ways to get them.
► Create backlinks
► Buy backlinks
► Earn backlinks

Out of the three, only one of them is truly valuable. In the tutorial, you’ll learn which one that is.

However, not all backlinks are good. Only some are really valuable.

To understand what makes a link good, there are two main categories you should look at.
► Relevance
► Authoritativeness

In the video, you’ll learn what these two concepts mean and how you can evaluate links for these two qualities.

The Easiest Way To Build Backlinks. Look, backlinks don't have to be hard to build. Everyone says, "Write amazing content you're going to get links." You know what? If you write the content, don't promote it. No one's going to see it. No one's going to link to it. Even if you promote it, it's still hard to get links. People used to be willing to link way more back in the day than they are now.

So, one way that a lot of people will build links, and this isn't my favorite way but I'm going to actually mention two ways. I'm going to break down the second easiest way and then I'm going to break down the easiest way.

The second easiest way to build links is using the backlink opportunity report in Ubersuggest. So when you go to Ubersuggest, you put in your domain name, and you put in three of your competitors, it'll show you everyone who links to your competitors but does not link to you. Think of it this way, "If someone links to one of your competitors will they link to you?" Maybe. They may like your competition, not you.

Look, if someone is willing to link to not one, not two, but three of your competitors. The chances are they'll link to you because they're not loyal to any competitors. So, with the backlink opportunity report issues you the exact pages, people are linking to your competitors, and if someone's linking to three of your competitors, and you see the exact pages you would just want to create a better version of those pages, email them, chances are they'll be willing to swap out the link. Not everyone will, but a good chance.

Now, that's not the easiest way I've built links but that is my second favorite way. Now my favorite way of building links. All right. Have you ever seen neilpatel.com/ubersuggest? That's a tool. It's a tool on SEO, and it helps you get more traffic. It's a free tool. There's also a paid version but you can do a lot of stuff for free.

Well, a lot of my competitors charge for you can do for free. So here's what's cool about it. If you release enough stuff for free in a tool that people are used to paying for, whether it's $5, or $10, or a hundred dollars, people link to that. Why? Because it's easy. People love linking to stuff that's easy and cheap, right? Or free. Why would you pay $5 when you can pay zero?

So if it's easy for them they don't have to swipe a credit card, they don't have to pay, There's no user registration, They're much more likely to link to it. that Ubersuggest tool has over 10,000 backlinks. So how do you build a tool if you don't have tons of money? Well, you can use sites like CodeCanyon, and at CodeCanyon, you can find tools on almost every industry. Pay maybe $10, $20, $30, white label it, pop it on your website, over time it helps you build links.

Even if you suck at promoting it, believe it or not, I learned that one the hard way. That's why I love tools so much. Or you can just go Google for like free, you know, SEO tool. Free white label, you know, real estate tool, and then just pop them on your website. And then over time, it'll start generating you backlinks. That's how you build links in the easiest way. It's a long term approach, works super well.

I don't recommend that you stop writing content or stop doing any of the other link building approaches but you should just pop up the tool on your website, and just give it time and you'll build links plus do what you're already doing, and that everyone else is talking about.

When you combine both of them, that's how you start beating your competition when it comes to building backlinks and out ranking them.

Backlinks are when someone links to your website from their site. The more sites that link to you, the higher you will rank in Google.

Now all backlinks aren't equal. Here are some of the things Google looks at when analyzing backlinks:

1. How authoritative is the site linking to you? If Huffington Post links to you it is more effective than if I, NeilPatel.com links to you. Why? Because Huffington Post is considered a well known authoritative site.

2. Authority is measured by a metric called "domain authority". It's from a scale of 0 to 100. The higher the number the better. You ideally want to get backlinks from sites with a domain authority that is higher than yours. You can use the tool ahrefs.com to learn what your domain authority is.

3. The more related a site is the better the link. If you are in the plumbing space, a link from Huffington Post isn't as good as Home Depot (which is an authority site in the home repair space). Try to get links from high domain authority sites within your space.

If you want to build links the quickest way to generate them is through round up posts. Email people within your space and interview them. Include their thoughts within your blog and let them know when you publish the post that includes them. Ask them to share the post on their favorite social network and even ask if they can link back to you.

By doing this your rankings will climb in Google.
