Lucky Dube—Back to My Roots
This whole concert is magnificent and I am loving the editing and re-mastering process, song by song. Eventually, I will have reach the end, but in the meantime, I hope you are enjoying the results. Lucky is just what we need in these times.
"Back to My Roots" is one of Lucky Dube's early hits. This exceptional performance captures him just as he just as he was peaking in energy and excitement on his second tour of the U.S. Shot at Bay Street, in Sag Harbor, New York in the summer of 1990, this concert features 90 minutes of non-stop motion and sound—not just from Lucky, but from all the members of his wonderful band, The Slaves, as well. In this song especially, we need to big up his background singers, Thandie Sikhutshwa, Ntombi Mtshali and Bhere Shandu.
Give thanks to the Step Lively crew: cameramen Earl Solomon, Stafford Ashani and Lee, as well as Preston Powell, the staff and management of Bay Street, and the great sound techs. Could not ask for a better live mix.
Thanks as well to Richard Siluma for his assistance and to Lucky for his accessibility and the brilliance and exuberance that we all love and miss so much. Rest in peace with eternal blessings, Lucky.
