Ukraine says its forces are continuing their advance into Russia's Kursk region, ten days after launching their surprise counterattack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says his government has held talks on setting up a military administration in Kursk to allow the evacuation of civilians. Kyiv said it plans to use the area as a strategic buffer zone to protect its border areas from Russian attacks.
Ukraine's cross-border advance into Russia has also renewed calls for its Western allies to drop their restrictions on how their weapons are used.

UK-donated Challenger 2 tanks have been used by Ukraine as part of its surprise incursion into Russia, a UK source has confirmed.

The Ministry of Defence is not officially commenting on what specific UK weapons are being used by Ukraine.

However, following Kyiv's incursion into Russian territory the department reiterated that Ukraine had "a clear right" to use UK-supplied weapons for "self defence against Russia's illegal attacks".

The UK is one of the biggest donors of military aid to Ukraine, behind the US and Germany.

Ukraine’s commander in chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, announced that Ukrainian troops advanced about a mile in various areas of the Kursk region, in addition to the 386 square miles that Ukraine previously claimed to capture. The Associated Press reported some Russian troops being pulled from inside Ukraine and back across the border to stop the incursion.

Ukraine has also stepped up their air attacks against the Russian military targets inside Russia. Russia said that it shot down 117 Ukrainian drones overnight and four missiles. Ukraine struck four Russian air bases in the biggest Ukrainian drone attack that's been carried out against Russia since the full-scale invasion began.

A major forest fire that began Sunday afternoon was raging out of control on the northern fringes of the Greek capital Monday, triggering numerous evacuation orders for Athen's suburbs and outlying areas. "It is the worst fire we have seen so far in Greece this year, with flames going up to 25 metres ... the fire engulfing the region of 35 kilometres in less than 24 hours", FRANCE 24's Nathalia Savaricas said, adding that 685 firefighters along with 190 fire trucks and 32 aircraft are currently deployed to put out the flames.

La Russie a annoncé une "opération antiterroriste" dans trois régions frontalières avec l'Ukraine, après la plus importante incursion des forces ukrainiennes sur son territoire depuis le début du conflit. Des unités de l'armée ukrainienne ont traversé la frontière russe et pénétré dans la région de Koursk mardi, puis ont avancé de plusieurs kilomètres, selon des analystes indépendants. La Russie s'est empressée de déployer des troupes et des équipements supplémentaires, notamment des chars, des lance-roquettes et des unités d'aviation, pour tenter d'enrayer l'offensive ukrainienne.
